World
Health Day is celebrated each year on 7th April globally, under the
leadership of World Health Organization to mark the founding of World
health Organization (WHO), to spread awareness among the people
attention to important on the health issues facing the world each
year.
It
is a working body under the UN which invites people from global
leaders to the public to focus on a single health challenge with
global impact to address issues and emergencies pertaining to health.
Every year a theme is raised that highlights a priority area of
concern for public health.
This
year, the theme for 2014 is Vector-borne Disease also dubbed as Small
bite, big threat. WHO is highlighting the serious and increasing
threat of vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue fever,
chikungunya, yellow fever and etc., that are transmitted by vectors
such as mosquitoes, ticks, bugs, sand flies, snails and fleas
transmit parasites, viruses or bacteria between people or between
animals and people, and that is why there is a need for people to
shield themselves from them.
WHO,
is spreading information about the increasing threat of vector-borne
diseases and encouraging people to engage in activities that can lead
to better life. Be safe and take precautions against
vector-borne diseases, is the message of this
year’s World Health Day.
